Experience

I am currently a special education teacher for grades 4th/5th with mild to moderate learning disabilities. These students are 2-3 years below grade level due to learning disabilities. I am very patient and use different techniques, strategies, styles, and methods to help students to understand and succeed in areas of weakness and build upon their areas of academic strength. I would like to be a tutor so that I can help students to build up their areas of weakness and continue to build upon their areas of strength so that their confidence in themselves and their ability to be successful in school continues to grow. I have been tutoring students at my school site for the past four school years since 2011 after school for grades 1st-5th in all subject areas, I currently tutor students in reading, and mathematics. I have also tutored students in grades 6th-8th outside of the school setting at local libraries. As a teacher and as a tutor, I have ran both individual and small group 4-5 student small group tutoring sessions. I am very familiar with the NEW COMMON CORE curriculum and its requirements for students. I have Implemented standard based curriculum whole class, as well as provided intensive intervention to support individual student needs in achieving academic mastery. Hobbies

My hobbies and interest are sports ( basketball which I also coach during the winter months for students in grades 4th-5th) and I am very much into outdoor activities like hiking, camping, and bike ridding. I am interested in all things science. I have a great sense of humor and try to use that when possible in my tutoring sessions to make the learning both fun and engaging for my students.
